Four Seasons of Adventure

Playa Bonita Stays works year-round — and every season has its reason to visit. Year round massages in the sand. ATV tours through the mountains and along the coast. Catamaran trips. Ziplining at Samaná Zipline. And the simple, irreplaceable pleasure of walking the boardwalk at golden hour.

Winter (Jan–Mar): Whale watching season in Samaná Bay. Humpback whales migrate to the bay to mate and give birth. One of the world's great wildlife spectacles, 45 minutes from your front door.

Spring & Fall: 70+ miles of hiking and biking trails through the Samaná Peninsula. Horseback riding to the 52-meter El Limon waterfall. Los Haitises National Park — rainforest, mangroves, ancient Taino cave petroglyphs, and 200+ species of birds, accessible only by boat.

Summer: Surfing and surf lessons with Carolina Surf School (5-min walk, founded by a 6-time national champion). Paddleboarding at sunset. Snorkeling at El Portillo's coral reef (15 min) or the 80-meter sunken cargo ship in Samaná Bay.

Life on Playa Bonita

The Beach

Playa Bonita is the calmest and clearest beach in Las Terrenas — a long arc of golden sand where the Atlantic comes in warm and gentle. The boardwalk runs the length of it, lined with restaurants, surf schools, and beach massage tables. It is the kind of beach you walk every morning and never take for granted.

The Food Scene

Within a 5-minute walk: Mosquito Boutique Hotel Bar & Grill — the most popular spot on the boardwalk, open all day with a bohemian terrace and views to match. Marea at Playa Bonita Residences — breakfast, burgers, and the only restaurant in Las Terrenas that delivers cold drinks to your beach chair. Hotel Atlantis — a French chef at the far end of the boardwalk, serving European cuisine at the edge of the ocean.

Getting There & Around

Las Terrenas is located on the Samaná Peninsula in the northeastern Dominican Republic. The nearest airports are El Catey International Airport (45 min) and Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo (2.5 hrs). Once here, taxis are the easiest way to get around — our house manager will be waiting for you and can help connect you with trusted local drivers.
